UCONN-SECURE Network
Windows Vista
The following step by step instructions will detail how to configure your computer to run on the UCONN-SECURE wireless network through the Windows Vista wireless configuration utility.
- Change your NetID password at http://netid.uconn.edu from a wired connection.
Note:- If you have changed your NetID later than March 4, 2008 then you do not have to perform this step.
- This will change your password for ALL applications that use NetID such as your Exchange/Huskymail account and HuskyCT
- Open the wireless connection window.
- Click Start => Control Panel => Network & Internet => Network and Sharing Center.
- Select Set up a connection or network.
- Double click on Manually connect to a wireless network.
- On this screen enter information for the wireless network you want to add.
- Network name: UCONN-SECURE
- Security type: WPA2-Enterprise.
- Encryption type: AES
- Start this connection automatically: Checked
- Click the Next button.
- Double click on Change connection settings.
- The UCONN-SECURE Wireless Network properties window will open.
- Check Connect automatically when this network is in range.
- Uncheck Connect to a more preferred network if available.
- Click the Security tab.
- Next to Protected EAP (PEAP) click on the Settings button.
- The Protected EAP properties window will open.
- Validate server certificate: Checked.
- Trusted Root Certification Authorities: UTN-USERFirst-Hardware.
- Authentication Method: Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
- Click on the Configure… tab.
- Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).
- Click OK.
- A balloon will appear near the system tray that reads, Additional information is required to connect to UCONN-SECURE.
- Go to a UITS supported wireless location
- Click on the balloon to provide your credentials.
- Enter your NetID and NetID Password in the Enter Credentials window. The Logon domain field should be empty.
- A Validate Server Certificate window will now appear. Click on View Server Certificate to ensure that it is signed by ender.uits.uconn.edu or bean.uits.uconn.edu and the date rages displayed are valid. The confirmaiton and acceptance opf this certificate will ensure that you are connecting to a UITS managed access point and not a rogue access point.








Congratulations, after a few moments you will connect the UCONN-SECURE wireless network.
